Wendy Cattermole is the heart behind the Respite Foundation, a mission born from a lifetime of understanding what it means to care for someone you love. Wendy grew up in a family shaped by the needs of her older sister, who was disabled from birth. Her parents devoted their lives to ensuring her sister received constant support, stability, and protection. That devotion created a home filled with love—but also one where every decision, every schedule, and every moment revolved around caregiving. From a young age, Wendy saw both the beauty and the weight of that responsibility. She watched her parents pour themselves into caregiving without ever asking for a break, a moment to breathe, or time to simply be themselves. Those early experiences stayed with her, shaping her empathy, her resilience, and her deep understanding of what caregivers quietly carry every day. Years later, after building a life in Florida with her husband Robert, Wendy felt called to turn her childhood experience into something meaningful—something that would give other caregivers what her own parents never had: rest. That vision became Respite Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to offering free, restorative stays in peaceful Florida homes to adult caregivers who rarely get the chance to step away. Wendy’s mission is simple but powerful: to give caregivers permission to pause, recharge, and feel seen. Her story is one of compassion transformed into action—a lifelong understanding of caregiving turned into a gift for those who give so much of themselves.
